Sarah Tang has been a staple in the defensive unit of Lake Norman’s girls soccer team for two years.
But the junior became a midfielder this season to fill a void left by departures of key players like Kelly King, who is playing at University of Alabama, and Kelly’s sister, Tia, who moved to Mississippi, as well as Christina Barbour.
Junior defender Meghan Kos no longer has Tang as a backline teammate, and that’s OK with her.
“She’s our leading goal scorer,” Kos said, grinning. “Nah, I don’t miss her. But I did love playing with her (on defense).”
Entering Monday’s game against West Iredell, Tang had a team-leading seven goals.
She recorded one of her four assists in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Statesville — a game in which she appeared to outperform everyone.
“Everything seems to be kind of building around her now in the middle of the field,” Lake Norman coach Jon Mertes said.
