Vikings’ Brown finishes strong in state tournament
FROM STAFF REPORTS
South Iredell sophomore Clay Brown took third place individually at the two-day 2A state golf championship at Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Pinehurst.
Brown was in a three-way tie for second place after the opening round and carded a 4-over-75 Tuesday to clinch third place.
“I think he really enjoyed the experience,” South coach David Foster said. “He held up well under pressure and held it together.”
Brown finished with a two-day score of 147, three strokes behind second-place finisher Jay Brown.
Ryan Lavelle won the individual championship and also led his school, Cardinal Gibbons, to the team title.
Cardinal Gibbons finished with a team score of 597 to beat three-time defending champion Ledford by one stroke.
