Vikings sweep four-team meet

LINCOLNTON — South Iredell’s boys and girls track and field teams won a four-school meet Thursday at Lincolnton.
South’s boys racked up 86 points to beat out Lincolnton by a point. Highland Tech came in third with 49 points, and Cherryville finished with 28.
The Vikings won six events, including the final one, which put them over the top. Henry Bustle, John Keller, John Guterineza and Markevis Dalton combined to win the 4x400-meter relay.
Alex Bustle won the discus and finished second in the shot put, behind only teammate Anthony Thwaites. Tevin Ikard won the high jump, and South’s 4x800 and 4x200 relays prevailed.
Led by relay victories in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800, South’s girls amassed 76 points to finish first. Highland Tech placed second with 63, followed by Lincolnton (61) and Cherryville (32).
Tatiana Smith won the shot put for the Vikings.
