South Iredell’s 3-2 softball win over Lake Norman on Monday was more than just a big win to open the season.
It was also the first victory over the Wildcats in program history.
Amber Graney smacked the game-winning hit, Kathleen Pasquarella blasted a home run and Kelsey Spangler held the Wildcats to just three hits in the victory.
“I think it’s just a carryover from last year’s success,” South coach Josh Bumgarner said. “We have a strong core of starters coming back. We built on the success we had last year, and you could tell the confidence we were playing with.”
The Vikings advanced to the 2A state playoffs last season as a wild-card entry and return most of their starters.
They’re still pretty young, too, so it should only get better from here.
“My sophomore class is very big,” Bumgarner said. “I have five sophomore starters.”
