SEMI-PRO FOOTBALL: Iredell Warriors 38, Carolina Eagles 30
Warriors back in title tilt
With the win, in which the victors built a large lead and then protected the outcome, Iredell improved to the 112-mark overall and will make their second straight showing in the CCFL’s title tilt.
The Warriors, making their final appearance of the season at home, jumped out on top by as much as a 35-14 advantage and weathered a comeback charge on the part of the Eagles that served to cut the game’s final margin to the eight points that stood at its end.
Once again, local-bred talent was among those making healthy contributions to the feat.
Former Mooresville Senior High product Roger Alexander, at quarterback, passed for more than 150 yards and accounted for a pair of touchdowns. Alexander completed five passes for 151 yards and ran for another 61 yards in the winning cause.
Local talent Cam Simpson keyed the rushing game with 234 yards, tallying a pair of touchdowns to boot on runs covering 82 and 43 yards that contributed to the scoring outburst.
As a CCFL finalist, the Iredell Warriors, coached by Mooresville’s Torrey Torrence, will take aim at this year’s league championship trophy when squaring off against the host Greenville Seminoles in Greenville, S.C. over the upcoming weekend.
