GRANITE QUARRY — West Iredell threatened to hand East Rowan its first North Piedmont 3A loss Tuesday, but the Mustangs squeaked out a 1-0 victory by scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning.
West pitcher Hannah Pennell walked in the winning run to spoil an otherwise strong performance. Pennell went the distance, striking out nine and allowing two hits and six walks. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh for the Warriors (5-5, 4-4 NPC).
Chelsea White threw a two-hitter for the Mustangs. She fanned 11 batters.
West’s home game with East Rowan has been rescheduled for April 30.
