West golfer returns to regionalsBy Brian Meadows
James Malzi finished 20th in the final North Piedmont 3A golf standings. As one of the top four individuals from a team that didn’t qualify for the Midwest Regional, Malzi punched his own ticket to the tournament. “I’m pretty excited, even though I didn’t play as well as I did last year,” he said. It marks the second straight year Malzi earned the right to play at regionals. Malzi expects to draw from last year’s experience as he attempts to qualify for the state finals.
“You feel a lot more pressure, starting from the first tee, so I learned from that,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll play as well as I can.”
