West Iredell is building a hitting and pitching facility next to its baseball and softball fields.
Warriors baseball coach Buck Gatton said the structure lacks a few finishing touches and should be complete within the next month.
“Hopefully our kids will take advantage of that this fall and this winter,” said Gatton, noting the facility is also available to West Iredell softball players.
There will be two batting cages and two mounds. The facility provides an opportunity to sharpen skills, particularly on bad-weather days.
“Not many small colleges have something like that,” Gatton said. “We’ve got a good group of parents that don’t mind helping. The parents have pretty much taken care of erecting the building. The booster club helped us out, as far as paying for the building itself, and then a lot of baseball parents have raised extra money to cover concrete and other expenditures.
“We’re really fortunate.”
