Because Lake Norman (12-0 NPC) swept the season series, the Wildcats also own the tiebreaker for the top seed in the playoffs, on the slim chance both they and Mooresville (11-2 NPC) finish league play with two losses.
Lake Norman’s boys soccer team was the NPC’s top seed in the playoffs last fall and played five home playoff games en route to winning its second straight state title. The girls playoff bracket sets up similar this spring for the NPC’s top seed.
“You have to have home-field advantage in the playoffs,” Mertes said. “You have to if you want to have a chance.”
