Members of South Iredell’s boys and girls track teams had some of their best performances this year in the two-day Southern Piedmont 1A-2A championship meet this week.

North Iredell is back on track for the 3A playoffs. Lauren Carter and Kawoni Revels are a big reason why.
South Iredell demonstrated patience at the plate Monday, drawing 13 walks in a 10-5 win over Lincolnton.
Christy Plyler blasted a three-run home run Tuesday to lead Lake Norman to a 5-1 win over Mooresville.
Lake Norman scored early Tuesday and made the goal stand up in a 1-0 North Piedmont 3A win at Statesville.
Nick Matlock went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as South Iredell topped Southern Piedmont 1A-2A foe North Lincoln 6-5 Tuesday.
Brian Romito faced just four batters over the minimum and West Iredell defeated North Iredell 3-2 on Tuesday.
Lake Norman escaped Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over West Rowan.
Statesville closed out the regular season Wednesday with a 9-0 drubbing of East Rowan.
Lake Norman capped a perfect regular season with its 9-0 win over Northwest Cabarrus on Wednesday.
Earlier this season, West boys tennis coach Lindsey Weycker called Peter Eller a player who could turn the program around.
The North Piedmont 3A track and field championships are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at Mooresville High.
It has been an uphill battle this season for West Iredell’s young girls soccer team, but the Warri-ors saw their patience pay off recently, when they defeated Carson 2-1 for their first victory.
With its 9-0 win Wednesday over Northwest Cabarrus, Lake Norman completed a perfect regular season and locked up the program’s first conference title.

A scheduling quirk has given North’s soccer team a brutal final week of the season.
Zeke Odom has excelled in the 300-meter hurdles this season after not running the event in the past.
North Iredell’s softball team experienced a swing of emotions during Friday’s doubleheader against Statesville.
The Raiders trailed the winless Greyhounds for most of the first game before receiving an emotional, unexpected phone call from assistant coach Angie Carlton.
South Iredell’s girls soccer team has spent some quality time with the activity bus in recent weeks.
Paving work on the school’s track forced South to hit the road. The Vikings had to change scheduled home games with South Caldwell and East Lincoln to away games last week, and four of their last five contests have been away.
The good times kept rolling Tuesday for West Iredell.

Lake Norman golfers occupied six of the top seven spots in the NPC standings Monday entering the last nine-hole conference match before Thursday’s 18-hole tournament championship.
The win over rival Mooresville gave the Lake Norman girls soccer team a 1½ game lead over the Blue Devils in the conference title race.
West Iredell’s prom is May 3, so Kendayl Waugh is planning accordingly. She scheduled an appointment Thursday to have her hair done the day of the prom at Scissor Happy Hair Salon.
With her blazing speed, Statesville sophomore Sarah Ann Waugh only needs a tiny sliver of space to make good things happen.
Waugh made the most of her few good looks Monday against Mooresville, scoring once and adding two assists as the Greyhounds defeated the Blue Devils 3-2 for their signature win of the season.
Females have a much greater risk of tearing their anterior cruciate ligaments than male athletes. But this is not a problem without solutions.
They were both so young and talented.

The rebuilding Mooresville tennis team is a win away from qualifying for the playoffs.
Mooresville’s 3-2 soccer loss Wednesday to Lake Norman effectively cemented the Blue Devils’ status as the No. 2 playoff team from the North Piedmont 3A.
Mooresville senior Jamel Allison drew quite the crowd during his first long jump attempt at last week’s Iredell County track and field championships.
Senior Josh Nelson is in position to defend his NPC individual title after last week’s showing.
Ahshante Branch was always the exception on the basketball court.

Statesville pole vaulter Jordan Daywalt has been testing new poles since the end of last season, when she captured the 3A state championship.
Statesville’s boys golf team moved into third place in the North Piedmont 3A standings this week.
MOORESVILLE — Lake Norman kept its unbeaten record intact Friday, turning back Mt. Tabor 1-0 in a non-conference game.
MT. ULLA—West Rowan dispatched West Iredell 12-4 on Friday to sweep the teams’ season series.
Statesville nearly canceled the 2008 softball season because the team didn’t have enough players. Several late additions helped keep the program going, even though coach Bobby Morrison had reservations due to the players’ inexperience.

South Iredell’s boys and girls track and field teams won a four-school meet Thursday at Lincolnton.
For the first time this season, Lake Norman didn’t win a North Piedmont 3A golf match.
South Iredell picked up its first conference win in fine fashion.
Lauren Carter had a hat trick Thursday to lead a shorthanded North Iredell squad to a 6-0 win over South Rowan.
West Iredell picked up its first win of the season Thursday, as two early goals stood up in a 2-1 win over Carson.
Jake Deaton is typically a fairly social guy. He chats with teammates during track meets and takes time between throws to demonstrate helpful tips to fellow Blue Devils throwers.
Everything changes when Deaton gets ready for the shot put.
No. 6 golfer Hunter Mitchell had one of his best rounds of the season Wednesday.
South’s baseball team lost several close, low-scoring games in the first run through Southern Piedmont 1A-2A play.
South Iredell junior Markevis Dalton also qualified for a regional event at the county meet.

Mooresville took a giant step toward advancing to the playoffs with an 8-1 win over Statesville on Tuesday.
Kim Bessent had three hits and Jennifer Stogner pitched her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the final inning as Lake Norman defeated Carson 5-4.
Kathleen Pasquarella blasted a three-run home run, her second of the season, to help lead South Iredell past East Lincoln 5-3 on Tuesday.
Hannah Pennell had as many hits as she allowed Tuesday in a 12-2 rout of South Rowan.
East Lincoln picked up a 1-0 Southern Piedmont 1A-2A win over South Iredell on Tuesday.
South Iredell racked up seven hits and scored nine runs Tuesday but it wasn’t enough.
West Iredell lost a heartbreaker Tuesday, falling to South Rowan 6-3.
Tyler Christenberry had no trouble at the plate Tuesday, hammering two home runs in North Iredell’s 6-3 win over Northwest Cabarrus.

Jared Thompson is pulling double duty. A strong discus thrower on the West track and field team, Thompson opted to join friends Nick Setzer and Tyler Tomlin on the Warriors boys tennis team this spring as well.
West football standout Quan Rucker attended the Shrine Bowl combine at Alexander Central in Taylorsville over the weekend.

Mooresville, ranked fourth in the 3A state coaches poll, was on the verge of doing something rare Wednesday, but Moffett wouldn’t have it. The Lake Norman senior scored with 12 minutes left and the second-ranked Wildcats escaped with a thrilling 3-2 win over their archrival.

North’s soccer team will be missing a few players today when the Raiders host West Iredell.
The regional qualifiers for North Iredell’s girls track team again set the tone for the Raiders last week.
Senior Heather Nellis has verbally committed to play softball next season at Greensboro College, citing respect for head coach Kama Tucker and the school’s academics.
North Iredell’s golf team played one of its best matches of the year Monday, breaking the 200-stroke barrier for the second time this season.

Lake Norman’s boys tennis team defeated Mooresville 7-2 Wednesday in a battle for first place in the NPC.
The Lake Norman boys track and field team, led by Joe Hughes, already has seen three school records fall this season.
Lake Norman’s girls track and field team won its first two meets of the season, but today’s Iredell County Championships will be the Wildcats’ first glance at fellow North Piedmont 3A powers Mooresville and Statesville.
Lake Norman once again cruised to a 9-0 victory Monday, beating South Rowan with ease.
Sarah Ann Waugh came up big again for Statesville, contributing on each Greyhounds goal Monday in a 5-0 win over North Iredell.
Colton Neill and Mark Powell each shot a 40 Monday at Fox Den Country Club, leading South Iredell to a second-place finish against Southern Piedmont 1A-2A opponents.
Statesville’s Dalyn Bellingham shot a season-best 35 to win medalist honors at Monday’s North Piedmont 3A match at Mooresville Golf Club, and Statesville nearly took first as a team, too.
A pair of firsts gave South Iredell’s baseball team a memorable win Friday.
With senior Rowdy Harris playing catcher for the first time in his baseball career, sophomore Chris Dula hurled an abbreviated no-hitter in his first start on the varsity team.

Mooresville’s softball team remains in contention for one of the NPC’s six playoff berths despite a boatload of underclassmen.
By the time freshman Courtney Smith graduates, several of Mooresville’s records in girls soccer may be unreachable.
Mooresville’s tennis match today against Statesville will likely decide the No. 2 team to advance to the 3A state playoffs from the North Piedmont 3A.

Statesville’s boys tennis team defeated Northwest Cabarrus on Wednesday for its third victory in as many matches. The run also included a pair of 9-0 wins over North and South Iredell.
Statesville point guard Keyrra Gillespie will be recognized for her recent all-state honor at Monday’s Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education meeting.
Reliever Tanner Stroud performed brilliantly in a tight spot Tuesday during Statesville’s 7-5 loss at Lake Norman.
