Warriors alive and kicking again

Having a Division I-bound kicker at its disposal several years ago spoiled West Iredell in that facet of special teams.

“We kind of measure every kicker now by Josh Hoke,” West football coach Mark Weycker said referring to the former Warriors player who concluded a stellar kicking career at Coastal Carolina in 2006.

West volleyball on a roll

West Iredell’s volleyball team has gotten out of the gate quickly again, winning each of its first four matches. Marrissa Church piled up 12 kills and served six aces on Tuesday in the Warriors’ 25-15, 25-13, 25-14 victory over previously-unbeaten South Rowan.

Michael Watkins found himself somewhat out of place when he took the pitch on Aug. 20.

But the West Iredell senior had fun. He even scored a goal in the Warriors’ 4-4 tie with South Iredell.

Foxx scores four as Wildcats continue streak

Led by Matt Foxx’s offensive onslaught, Lake Norman cruised to a 5-0 victory over West Iredell on Monday in North Piedmont 3A action.

Foxx scored four goals, including three in a seven-minute span early in the second half, sending the Wildcats to their 30th straight win. They went 27-0 last season en route to capturing the 3A state championship.

Morrison sets school record in victory

Friday night’s season opener felt like the Fourth of July. And it wasn’t just the heat and humidity.

There were plenty of fireworks.

West Iredell’s offense exploded for 433 total yards on its way to a resounding 51-0 thrashing of visiting Forbush.
